TOSCA’S UDP HALF PALLET: FROM UK TRIUMPH TO EUROPEAN RETAIL REVOLUTION NEWS Glanbia has finalized the sale of its meal replacement brand, SlimFast, to Supreme for a total cash consideration of £20.1 million ($27 million). This figure includes £9 million of deferred consideration, which is expected to be paid in 15 months. To fulfill the acquisition cost, the Group will utilize a combination of its existing cash resources and an asset-based lending facility. Established in 1977 in the US, SlimFast is a prominent weight management brand renowned for its meal replacement shakes, bars, snacks, and various weight loss plans. The brand maintains a strong presence in both the ready-to-drink and ready-to-mix powder markets. Additionally, it offers an advanced nutrition range, featuring high-protein, high-fiber, and gluten-free meal replacement shakes and smoothies. SlimFast has built an established sales footprint across the UK and Europe, with key customers including Amazon, Home Bargains, B&M, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Morrisons. This acquisition will also provide Supreme access to retailers like Boots and Superdrug. Dawn Meats has achieved a significant reduction in emissions over a six-year period, from 2018 to 2024. This initiative is part of the company’s €100M-plus Plan Four Zero sustainability strategy, which includes an ambitious target of attaining operational Net Zero by 2040. To clarify, Scope 1 encompasses emissions from sources that an organization directly owns or controls. Meanwhile, Scope 2 pertains to emissions produced indirectly, such as those resulting from the energy the company purchases and consumes. The sustainability update released by the meat processor reveals impressive achievements. Notably, the company has conserved enough water to fill over 1,272 Olympic-size swimming pools and has boosted the volume of waste recycled, reused, and recovered to an impressive 75%. Froneri Acquires Food Union’s European Ice Cream Division Froneri, a prominent ice cream manufacturer based in the UK, has entered into agreements to acquire Food Union’s European ice cream business. The financial specifics of this deal were not disclosed. According to a joint statement released by Food Union, the sale is expected to finalize within the “coming months.” This transaction encompasses Food Union’s European markets, including Norway, Denmark, Lithuania, and Romania. While the deal covers Latvia, the dairy business within this area will not be included, ensuring its current ownership remains unchanged, as stated. Froneri will maintain the existing management team of Food Union to lead the business, ensuring continuity. Food Union boasts several well-known ice cream brands, such as Premia in the Baltics, Jocker in Lithuania, and Isbjørn Is in Norway. For Froneri, this acquisition presents an opportunity to create new growth paths and reinforce its commitment to delivering high- quality ice cream to consumers. The deal, positioned as a stabilising measure to avoid deeper conflict, still awaits full ratification by all 27 EU member states—but its effects are already being felt in supply chains and pricing strategies worldwide. For European producers, the tariff has added a new layer of cost to an already strained market. Importers in the US face rising prices for everything from chocolate and cheese to olive oil and wine.
